I. A Viral Internet Sensation
In the digital world of short-form entertainment, genuine and sweet animal interactions frequently cut through the noise of daily news cycles. A lightning-fast, eight-second video posted by creator Thuyền Trưởng XSMB has become an absolute sensation on YouTube Shorts, amassing over 11.6 million views and hundreds of thousands of interactions worldwide.
The video focuses on “Xuxu,” a tiny infant macaque who has rapidly grown into an internet personality due to her expressive antics and docile personality.
II. Gentle Care and Expressive Reactions
The viral clip opens with the infant monkey resting peacefully outdoors across her caregiver’s lap [00:00]. Dressed in a miniature red patterned outfit featuring strawberry designs, Xuxu appears calm and trusting as human hands tenderly frame her tiny face.
What drove the clip to viral fame is the soothing interaction that unfolds next. The caretaker begins a gentle facial massage, softly squeezing and stroking Xuxu’s cheeks and chin [00:02]. Rather than squirming away or showing distress, the tiny primate displays remarkably human-like satisfaction. As her cheeks are pushed upward, her round, glassy eyes widen, and her small mouth stretches into funny, relaxed expressions that look straight out of an animated film.
As the massage continues, Xuxu raises her delicate fingers toward her mouth in a sleepy, baby-like gesture [00:05]. Her cooperative demeanor and apparent enjoyment of the cheek rub highlight the strong bond established between the infant animal and her daily caregiver.

III. The Psychology Behind “Cute Content” Online
Why do brief animal clips like Xuxu’s garner tens of millions of views so quickly? Behavioral researchers often point to the phenomenon of “Kindchenschema” (baby schema)—a set of physical features such as large eyes, high foreheads, and small noses that trigger innate human nurturing responses and release dopamine.
When paired with modern algorithmic platforms like YouTube Shorts and TikTok, these bite-sized, stress-relieving clips offer an instant emotional lift. For millions of viewers navigating busy or stressful daily routines, watching an eight-second moment of gentle care provides pure, lighthearted escapism.
While primatologists consistently remind the public that primates require intensive, specialized care and are fundamentally wild creatures, quiet glimpses of everyday affection continue to resonate across cultural and linguistic boundaries.
